Atrocious Leadership

ATROCIOUS LEADERSHIP
Born in the 20th century
Most happenings gone:
Catastrophic incidences
Leaderships;
 Characterized by
Insolence and impunity
But
Still imprinted in the elders mind.

Loads of gratitude to history
I got the insight
Of what entails dictatorship
A country chained and
Locked in a cocoon of hostility
A people gagged
And speeches done in whispers

Freedom enclosed in a transparent capsule
You can see it, feel it
But never touch it
Yours but never yours to keep

Divide and rule methods of governance
Tortures by the government
As they engorge their pockets
The common man suffers
Remains destitute
While
The greedy minority
Widen the rich-poor gap

Democracy
A talk that’s never walked
Tribal lines drawn
Brothers turning against each other
Each with blood lust
Hatred and disdain take over
Much for the selfish bastards gain
But
Loss to the underdogs

Hope not lost
We fight
Praying for a better tomorrow

A tomorrow
That all are proud to be Kenyans
Resources are equally distributed
A right to dissent
And sanctity of life upheld.
A tomorrow that’s free
It’s near
I can smell it…..

  1. Great, Liz! This is reminscient of Claude McKay's "If We Must Die." I don't know if you're familiar with is work, but to have your writing conjure his spirited, fearless poetry is a true honor and an ode to your depth as a poet. Great work, Liz. Great work.

    Here's a link to McKay's poem: http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/if-we-must-die/
