As He Sleeps

clothed only in boxers yet naked still
lying outstretched
his true nature revealed
in slumber

bravado whisked away into the dark night
lost amid the reddish hue of his chestnut skin
i tremble at the thought of my accomplished knight

to spend a fortnight in his chiseled arms
is bliss
far more than passionate sex, he respects
my sex

embracing my tender womanhood
protecting me from foes of all vices
in his eyes i am honored

the recipient of his ardent kisses
the sage from which he seeks counsel
the storehouse for his innermost vulnerabilities
trusting me with his heart
of his being i am a part

my finger traces his soft lips –
searching his restful countenance –
for signs of forever

in this quiet moment
i finally have that for which my soul hungers:
a man who loves me
completely
incomplete as we are, we stand united against a cruel world

tonight there is only solace
my head lies upon his heaving chest
every beat of his heart resonates within me
comforting me, humbling me
for i truly love this man
unconditionally

  1. Absolutely beautiful and well woven. It moved me and I enjoyed its flow, cadence, and rhythm. More please, more!

  2. It is surely amazing how love's experiences are so similar. Very well said Michelle! I could not have described it any better. Lovely
